Since last Thursday, there is no gasoline or diesel in Port au Prince. It is hard to believe, but it is true... Cars are lined up for blocks on end as drivers wait in vain for fuel. Everyone is walking around with some container just in case fuel is to be found, and the black market is flourishing! Today i drove by a gas stations a fight started out and all I could see was a group of 30 men punching and kicking.
Last Wednesday night I received a call from pastor Johnny telling me to hurry to a gas station before it was too late. We pulled into the gas station, fueled up and payed for our fuel. A minute later, all the lights were turned off and the gas station was closed. We were got the last bit of the diesel!
At the same time that it is hard to imagine a country with these sorts of problems being able to develop, it is amazing to see how haitians are resilient, creative and adapt so well to adverse conditions...
Somente no Haiti
Desde quinta feira, não há gasolina ou disel em Porto Príncipe. É difícil de acreditar, mas é verdade. As filas de carro nos postos são imensas e os motoristas passam o dia esperando em vão. Todos andam com algum recipiente na mão caso combustível seja encontrado, e o mercado negro está faturando! Hoje passei por um posto no momento em que uma briga começou, só pude ver um grupo de 30 homens dando socos e chutes.
Na quarta feira a noite recebi um telefonema do pastor Johnny insistindo que eu fosse correndo ao posto antes que tudo acabasse. Chegamos, abastecemos depressa e pagamos. Menos de um minuto depois todas as luzes foram apagadas e o posto fechado. Fomos os últimos a comprar o que restava do disel!
Ao mesmo tempo que é difícil imaginar um país com esses tipos de problemas conseguindo se desenvolver, é incrível ver como os haitianos são persistentes, criativos e se adaptam tão bem às condições adversas...
